I woke up at 11am. EST on Thursday and didn’t go to bed until 5 am EST.

Saturday. Sleep deprivation in the name of completing this album. It’s 2 days away from complete after all this time. I was sitting in the mastering session and got full of joy , stood up and yelled out “I AM SO HAPPY” it takes a lot to get me to this point, and I’ve worked so hard, internally and in the physical world on this album to be so close to completion is SO EXCITING!!!! The engineer laughed until he was red…..LOL! When you hear people say this is not a glamorous life, it’s true. BUT the whole truth is this: Though it’s not glamorous, it IS EXCITING …..LOL! This has been a rewarding experience…. India.Arie

This is a continuation of Testimony # 5, yall…..I am not trying to say I am perfect. The human condition is that of imperfection. I am at once a subtle, gentle, heart, and a straight-forward, brusque and impetuously fierce woman and I own the right to be it all. However, where my musical expression is concerned, it has been my calling from the beginning [even when I was just writing songs in my bedroom] to be socially responsible and pleasing to God and my family. In my interpersonal relations I live and love and learn and express my feelings and thoughts in a less subtle way. The people who know and love me the most can tell you, it’s the Libra iron fist in a velvet glove thing. The point I am making here is that if you listen with your ears AND your heart, you will hear that these songs are in many cases about the Triumph and victory over GREAT pain. In some cases my songs are about GREAT love and in MY opinion that is a GREAT place to be. – India

There is one criticism that I get about my music that bothers me more than any other. When a critic [how could someone make a profession out of criticizing the expression of a persons soul ? That‘s a whole ‘nether conversation]…back to the
point at hand.. It really bothers me when a critic says that my music is too idealistic, too unrealistic. For example, when “Voyage To India” came out there was a critique of my album that asked “where is the song about the Grammy upset?” “Little Things” IS that song !! The thing about me is that I was born diplomatic. Stevie Wonder said I had a “gift for telling the perfect truth without being offensive”. THIS is a world where the more irreverent a person is, the more money he makes (i.e. South Park, Beavis and Butthead, Ann Nicole Smith). But for a person to come along with a diplomatic way of expressing the truth, I think that may be TRULY radical. (To be continued…)
